Sony Network Communications, a subsidiary of behemoth tech corporation Sony Group, has partnered with Astar Network, a multi-chain smart contract network to launch a Web3 Incubation Program.
The partnership will see both Sony Network Communications and Astar Network focus on utilising NFTs and decentralised autonomous organisations (DAO) and explore ways of addressing industry issues with blockchain and Web3 technology.
“We are pleased to launch the Web3 incubation program with Sony Network Communications, one of the Sony Group’s companies, which has been involved in the NFT sector and other Web3 initiatives within the Group,” Sota Watanabe, CEO of Startale Labs and Astar Network, said in a statement sent to Bitcoin.com. “We hope to share the knowledge and resources of both companies to provide value to the participants selected for the program and create new use cases and projects.”
Applications are still open
Sony and the Astar Foundation will pick “10 to 15 cohorts” from submitted applications and the program is open to everyone worldwide. Startale Labs, a Singapore-based company founded by Watanabe will organise the Web3 incubation program from mid-March to mid-June later this year. Interested persons can send in their applications from now until March 6.
Global VC firms including Dragonfly, Fenbushi Capital and Alchemy Venture will also provide learning sessions. Sony will also hold an offline demo in mid-June at Sony Group’s HQ in Tokyo during Japan Blockchain Week.
This is yet another partnership from Astar Network as it continues to explore use cases for Web3 technology. On the other hand, Sony has been exploring Web3, NFTs and the metaverse for a while after unveiling a patent that could see it incorporate a bitcoin betting system into its consumer electronics like the PlayStation console.
